The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six permanent organs of the UN. As the name suggests, it is responsible for the coordination of economical social and other related work of 14 UN specialised agencies, their functional commissions and five regional commissions. It holds one four-week session each year in July, and since 1998, it has also held a meeting in April with finance minister heading key committees of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fun (IMF).

Topic 1: Panama Papers

The Panama Papers is the largest data leak in history, listed by the Panamanian firm Mossack Fonseca. The massive leak of information painted a disturbing picture of how the rich and the dangerous evade tax, launder copious amounts of money and avoid sanctions. In the past, these issues where dealt with by brute force to subjugate the people- but this leak proves that truncating information with the click of a button is just as, if not more, effective. Delegates should contemplate both the economic and social implications of this data leak, and how they can be dealt with in throes of a digitized revolution.
